This book takes you to life in Cambodia shortly after the downfall of Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge. It follows the life of Maly and her estranged daughter Chea, who both live very different lives.
Maly, with very little schooling, moves to Phnom Penh to make a new life with Sovan her boyfriend, and then loses everything.
Chea is lucky enough to leave Cambodia, move to England and then on to New York.
Chea’s return to Cambodia sees a roller-coaster of fortunes and emotions.
