William “Buck” Jones is the author of I Am Kazak, a prehistoric adventure and romance set approximately 34,000 years ago. The novel follows Kazak, a powerful young man born to a Cro-Magnon father and Neanderthal mother, as he struggles to survive, protect Mara—a gifted healer—and unite ancient peoples against a brutal enslaver.
Jones does not simply invent his stories or develop them through research. He experiences them as extraordinarily vivid dreams in which characters, relationships, dangers, and practical details are revealed to him. His task afterward is to write down what he has witnessed as accurately and completely as possible.
What makes these experiences even more remarkable is that Jones has achromatopsia and sees the waking world without color. His dreams, however, appear in vivid, full color. They are the only place where he experiences color as other people describe it, making these stories feel less like inventions and more like experiences he has received and been entrusted to share. I Am Kazak is the first novel in a planned four-book series.
